Scott P. Hatcher

Mr. Hatcher has been a Partner with Cuddy & McCarthy, LLP since joining the firm in 2022. He brings over 40 years of experience as a defense lawyer in various aspects of civil litigation serving both private and governmental clients, many of whom he has represented for over 30 years in New Mexico. Mr. Hatcher’s practice concentrates on the defense of insurance companies and their insureds in many areas of tort and commercial litigation, including insurance bad faith, insurance coverage disputes, as well as employment and police cases. Mr. Hatcher has tried over sixty first chair jury trials in addition to numerous non-jury trials and arbitrations in most of New Mexico’s judicial districts and at all levels of state and federal courts. While handling most appeals arising from his cases, he has participated in many oral arguments both at the New Mexico Supreme Court as well as the Tenth Circuit Federal Court of Appeals. Mr. Hatcher has been lead counsel in numerous reported decisions from both state and federal appellate courts. Included among the professional societies he is associated with are the American Board of Trial Advocates (ABOTA) and the Federation of Defense and Corporate Counsel (FDCC). He carries the highest Martindale-Hubbell AV Rating and is listed in the Best Lawyers in America for his expertise in civil litigation.
